Cleansing Your Crystals

Crystals need to be cleansed if you have just received them, or over time as they pick up unwanted negative vibrations.

Use your best judgement when determining if a crystal should be cleansed or not. Crystals can hold energy so you do not want to cleanse your crystal if it is infused with healing reiki energy or an intention you would like to manifest. There are some crystals that do not absorb negative energies gemstones like Citrine and Kyanite.

There are several different methods for cleansing your crystals. Choosing the best way for you will vary depending upon what types of crystals, how much time you have, and the kind of charge you are looking for.

Cleansing Methods

Sea Salt Water- Place your crystals in a glass bowl using purified water and one tablespoon of sea salt.  Submerge crystals in salt water over night or for 24 hours. Some crystals may be left longer if you feel they need to be cleansed more thoroughly.  Usually 24 is fine. There are certain crystals that cannot be put into salt water these are porous stones like calcite, carnelian, halite, hematite, labradorite, mica, and, opal. There are more so find out if the crystal you are cleansing is safe in salt. 

Dry Sea Salt- Fill a glass bowl with Sea Salt and bury the crystals in the sea salt. If you are cleansing a terminated crystal make sure it is pointing down into the Sea Salt. Leave your crystals in the sea salt over night or for 24 hours. Some crystals may be left longer if you feel they need to be cleansed more thoroughly.

Dry Rice- Fill a glass bowl with rice and bury the crystals in the rice. If you are cleansing a terminated crystal make sure it is pointing down into the rice. Leave your crystals in the rice over night or for 24 hours. Some crystals may be left longer if you feel they need to be cleansed more thoroughly.

Bury in Earth- You can bury your crystals in the earth outside and leave them there for a day or two. If you do not have a backyard you can place some dirt from the ground in a bowl and bury them in it. Crystals like being in the Earth because that is where they naturally come from so this is a good method to use.

Smudging- You can burn herbs to cleanse your crystals. Dried herbs like sage, sweetgrass, sandalwood, cedar, and juniper work well for smudging crystals.

Charging Methods

Full Moon- Place your crystals under the light of the full moon. Crystals can be left overnight on the day before, during, and after the full moon. The full moon is a very safe way to energize your crystals so that you can make sure they don’t fade in the sunlight.

Sunlight- You can place your crystals in the sunlight to charge them you have to be careful and make sure that your crystals are able to be placed in the sunlight without fading. Some crystals do not do well in the sunlight. Some of these crystals are Amethyst, Aquamarine, Citrine, Fluorite, Opal, Rose Quartz, Topaz, and Turquoise. There are more so make sure that you find out if your does well in sunlight first.
