Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy ImageMassage Therapy has many beneficial effects on the brain, body, emotions, and energetic bodies. Massage can be a very spiritual experience activating and balancing energetic pathways that can uplift you far past the physical. Massage is a healing modality that works with the physical body to promote healing. Energy healing works with the energy body alone.

Treating yourself to a regular massage is a wonderful way to nurture and love yourself. Make an intention to bring this gift into your experience. Massage will enrich your body, mind and soul with unlimited gifts.

The Benefits of Massage

Stress reduction- Stress begins in the mind and can be held in the body in different places. Massage brings a fluidity of movement to the body allowing all the stuck places to release and since all the systems of the body are so closely related this helps you feel relaxed and rejuvenated.

Emotional Release- Emotions get held up within the physical body from past trauma. Massage can help release stuck emotions from the body. When you receive a massage you may notice that you have an instantaneous release of emotional energy. You may cry or feel a flood of emotions coming up either during or in the days following a massage treatment.

Spiritual Openness- While you are in a relaxed state you open more to your more gentle spiritual nature. When pain from the body, mind, and emotions are released you may experience a higher level of spiritual awareness.

Healing Touch- Receiving  touch is therapeutic in so many ways. People often times do not receive touch and this is so important for a healthy life. Having someone touch you in a gentle and healing way can improve your overall happiness and openness to love.

Physical and Immunity Boosting- Massage is beneficial for many different illnesses and diseases including digestive disorders, fibromyalgia, anxiety, depression, TMJ, insomnia, headaches, nerve pain, sprains, lymphatic drainage and joint pain.

Many people learn and study massage therapy in an attempt to heal themselves and to help heal others if you are looking for a career in massage there are many different modalities that you can choose from. I am a certified massage therapist and have a background in several massage therapy techniques, so I have personal experience with the benefits that massage therapy offers.

Massage Modalities

Swedish Massage- This is one of the most common types of massage. The therapist uses kneading, rolling, vibrational, percussive, and tapping movements to reduce friction on the skin. Swedish massage promotes circulation and can be very relaxing and soothing.

Deep Tissue Massage- This is a deeper massage that affects the sub-layer of musculature and fascia. First the therapist makes sure the client is completely relaxed so that there is no chance of injury to the muscles. In deep tissue massage the therapist uses the elbows, palms, forearms, and knuckles. This type of massage is good for chronic pain and arthritis.

Sports Massage- Sports massage is used to enhance athletic performance and promotes blood flow. There are three types of sports massage pre-event, post-event, and injury treatment. Sports massage uses a lot of facilitated stretching techniques. The athlete also uses visualization in the pre-event massage to improve performance.

Trigger Point Therapy- Trigger point therapy is most commonly used to treat pain coming from muscles and connective tissues. The treatment involves  trigger point compression, myomassage, passive stretching, and a regime of corrective exercises.

Acupressure- Acupressure uses light touch with the fingers along energy points to restore balance to the meridians. It helps to unblock stuck life force and restores balance and energy flow to the organs. All the meridians are connected to specific organs and energy centers in the body.

Cranial Sacral Therapy-  The craniosacral system is the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. Craniosacral therapy uses light touch to assist the natural movement of fluid in the craniosacral system. Imbalances  in the craniosacral system can cause neurological problems. Craniosacral therapy helps the health and functioning of the central nervous system.

Kinesiology- Applied Kinesiology involves muscle testing which helps the therapist determine the client’s condition. Kinesiology can also be used to gain information about specific questions related to the health of the body, or any other general questions. The body knows what the answers are.

Reflexology- Reflexology involves the therapist pressing on specific points in the hands, feet, and ears. The whole of the body can be found on the feet and the hands and by applying pressure to specific areas this can create healing in those areas that they relate to.

Shiatsu- Similar to Acupressure, Shiatsu helps to unblock stuck life force energy and restores balance and energy flow to the meridians and organs. The therapist applies pressure with the fingers, thumbs, palms, elbows, or knees.  These points are located along side the energy meridians.

If you are on a spiritual path then you may want to consider massage therapy as a career. It is very beneficial for both the giver and the receiver bringing more healing and love to the world.
